Crock-Pot Spiced Peach Oatmeal

Cooking oatmeal in the slow cooker is easy to do and comes out delicious. It is important to use steel cut oats for the main ingredients. Steel cut oats are cut 2 to 3 times and are not processed like quick oats or old-fashioned oats. Quick oats and old-fashioned oats are processed and rolls specifically so they cook quick. If you make oatmeal using the quick oats or old-fashioned oats in a slow cooker, you will end up with a mushy mess. Steel cut oats take longer to cook and are perfect for the slow cooker.

I have substituted fresh peaches for the canned peaches. Use 4 or 5 medium fresh peaches and peel the peaches, remove the pits and slice. In the summer months, I like to use fresh Georgia peaches when they are available. Otherwise, I use canned peaches.

A friend use to give me her home canned peaches which are just as good if not better than fresh to use in this type of recipe!
